2013 Shoe Press User RoundtableJoin us in Portland, Oregon along the Columbia River for the 11th annual AstenJohnson Shoe Press Users Roundtable. Travel to this location costs about the same as travel to the East Coast, so don’t let travel be a concern. This location will not only allow for a beautiful setting but allows a tour of our host mill Longview Fibre Mill in Longview Washington. There is a great story of improvement and rebound from this mill.

We will bring together some experts in shoe press design and maintenance, shoe press belts, paper machine clothing and paper process optimization to bring you some new developments and to introduce topics for you to discuss with your peers. We will also help you find new ways to deal with challenges and to take steps forward with machine performance.

2013 AJU Tissue What You Will Learn

COURSE OVERVIEW

This course is designed to cover the fundamentals of tissue papermaking from the headbox through the Yankee dryer. Each section of the machine is covered separately from the wet end to the dry end. The primary purpose of each section is defined and followed by training on the important principles of operating that section for best performance, including machine and clothing variables. Many basic troubleshooting tips are offered throughout the training, appropriate to the section under study. Training is delivered in a classroom setting using PowerPoint and Round Table Discussions.

This training is well suited for new Process Engineers and technicians as well as Paper Machine Supervisors, Operators and new Shift Managers.

COURSE GOALS

Students will learn:

  • The overall process flow of papermaking from wet end to dry end of the paper machine.
  • The primary structure, functions, operating principles, and expected outputs from the headbox, forming section, press section, Yankee dryer, air caps.
  • Important best practices for setting up and operating each section of the paper machine.
  • To use their understanding of the fundamentals of paper making and each section of the paper machine to link cause and effect of problems on the machine and more quickly respond to correct them. This is accomplished through round table discussions of real issues on the machines.

2013 Printing & Writing Session #2

When:
June 4, 2013 – June 6, 2013 all-day
Where:
AJU, 4399 Corporate Road, Charleston,SC 29405, USA

AstenJohnson University (AJU) was established in 2005 as one way to invest in the development of future papermakers and to provide a forum for learning and sharing of common business practices. This AJU session will focus on issues associated with the printing and writing grade. By concentrating on a specific paper grade, we will be able to provide students with specific, applicable information that can be put into practice immediately upon returning to the mill. We will discuss actual papermaking experiences in class, so we encourage participants to bring examples of past problems or current challenges to explore in class.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This training session has been created to address the needs of individuals relatively new to papermaking, those with one to five years of experience in a mill. This training is well suited for new process engineers and technicians as well as new machine operators and new shift managers. Additionally, those with extensive hands-on experience but little formal technical training will benefit
from this session.

THE COST

The tuition is $900 USD and covers your hotel room, meals and all training materials. You will be housed at the Hyatt Place and transported to and from training sessions and meals. The only additional expense to you will be your travel costs to and from Charleston.
